The region of Ferrolterra Rias Altas - A natural paradise

See & Do

The village of Villarrube is located in the region of Ferrolterra Rias Altas, 120 km from the pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela, 70 km from the town of A Coruña and 5 km from Cedeira, known for its gastronomy.

Villarrube beach, 500m from the house, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Galicia and is surrounded by a magnificent nature reserve. No mass tourism but nature and tranquility!

Patin beach is 6km from Villarrube. Patin is the most famous surf beach in Galicia, thanks in particular to the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro, a professional competition of the World Surf League.

The Sierra de a Capelada and its impressive cliffs leave no one indifferent. A walk through Sierra de a Capelada allows you to discover the fauna that lives in the area, such as the cows and horses that graze in the mountains and pastures. In the Garita de Herbeira area, you can normally see the peregrine falcon. From here, the view of the highest cliffs in Europe is spectacular, revealing the immense ocean.

The region is a true natural paradise and offers you an extraordinary succession of cliffs, beaches, lighthouses and fishing villages, all in an atmosphere of legends. Breathtaking hikes or walks, bike tours along the Atlantic with a breathtaking view, yoga at the beach admiring the sunrise or sunset, exceptional gastronomy, ... everyone will be able to find happiness here!

And best of all, its people, happy to share their culture and customs with you to make you feel like a local.

The Surf

World-class surfing spots and much more

Are you seeking wild and fast-breaking waves on both sides, or do you prefer gentler waves that break on one side?
Thanks to its unique geographical location, Galicia boasts an impressive 1,300 kilometres of coastline and substantial exposure to swells. This exposure offers a multitude of options to accommodate the various swell directions and winds that affect the Galician coast.

The diversity of waves in Galicia is truly exceptional, making it one of the most consistent regions in terms of swells and winds, allowing for year-round surfing. In the vicinity of the Beachfront Surf & Holiday House alone, you'll find about a dozen prime surf spots, including Playa de Pantin, where numerous competitions are held annually, such as the Abanca Pantin Classic Galicia Pro. A bit further south, there are several spots featuring beach breaks, reefs, and slabs. During the winter and spring, when robust swells roll in, Galicia offers a wide selection of sheltered spots as well as numerous reef and slab breaks. Our personal favorite is the Vilarrube spot, offering a beautiful right-hand wave at low tide. The location is simply breathtaking, especially during sunset.
